The global Orthodox Church has been using the same liturgy, that of St John Chrysostom, Patriarch of Constantinople, who set down and finalised the more ancient Antiochan liturgy in about 400 AD. It became the standard Eucharistic service for most of the year for the global Orthodox church and has been used without change since that time. It is also known as the Byzantine Liturgy. The Celtic Church in Britain was under the jurisdiction of the Patriarch of Rome, and followed the styles and teachings of both that early Holy City and the monastic examples of Alexandria. There are many copies of the Divine Liturgy in English, ranging from Isabel Hapgood in 1906 to that of Fr Ephrem Lash in 1995. However the Welsh text was lost a thousand years ago; no extant copy remains. This version has been translated from scratch.
